Back-up rings from Freudenberg Sealing Technologies offer a high level of protection against damage

Back-up rings are frequently used in hydraulics, for example in hydraulic valves and hydraulic pumps. But Freudenberg Sealing Technologies' back-up rings are also extremely reliable for sealing ball valves or cylinder bases and heads, as required in general industry.

Back-up rings offer an extremely high level of protection against damage as they do not have a sealing function themselves, back-up rings are often used with O-rings. For example, to prevent gap extrusion of radially sealing ISC O-rings by reducing the sealing gap on the side facing away from the pressure with great reliability.

Back-up rings as a supplement to the O-ring

The back-up rings from Freudenberg Sealing Technologies are the perfect complement to the versatile O-ring. They serve as a kind of backup. Back-up rings ensure that an O-ring retains its round shape even under high pressure and can therefore withstand high pressure loads without being damaged.

This is achieved by fitting the back-up rings behind the O-ring on the side facing away from the pressure for one-sided pressure loads. For alternating pressure directions, we recommend using two back-up rings on both sides of the O-ring.

Back-up rings for hydraulics and more applications

As with all our products, we rely on the highest quality, durability and best material for our back-up rings. Most back-up rings are made of PTFE and can therefore withstand extreme temperatures from -200°C to 260°C without any problems. There are also back-up rings made of elastomer, which can be stretched and are therefore easy to fit in installation grooves.
